For large scale projects involving significant amounts of sludge like lagoons and clarifiers, the sheer volume and weight of the sludge can make disposal costs skyrocket. However, one of the easiest ways to minimize the cost is to dewater the sludge using dewatering boxes or filter presses. This allows the liquid portion to be returned to the system for wastewater treatment, leaving behind a significantly smaller volume of dry solid cake to be sent for disposal.
